The first big boxing event of 2019 is upon us. Future Hall-of-Famer Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBA “Regular” welterweight title against the flamboyant and polarizing Adrien “The Problem” Broner at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Here’s How You Can Watch
- Date: Saturday, January 19
- Time: 9 pm ET
- TV: Showtime PPV
- Live Stream: Showtime App
The Appeal

Pacquiao still holds a title, though the WBA regular belt is not considered a real world championship. At 40 years old, he’s still in fantastic shape and has an enormous fanbase. Pacquiao is still one of the fighters in the sport who can command a significant audience, no matter who he’s facing.
In this bout, Pacquiao isn’t the only participant drawing interest. Loved and loathed by many in the boxing community, Broner is a draw. He’s also at an entirely different point of his career than his opponent.
Broner is fighting the label of an underachiever, but a win over Pacquiao would help to squash some of the criticism. There’s also talk that the winner will get an opportunity to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this year.
It’s a multi-pronged backstory, and that’s what makes the fight so intriguing.
The Undercard

The fights that will precede Pacquiao-Broner are solid. Undefeated lightweight George Kambosos Jr. will be in action against Rey Perez. Jhack Tepora will face Hugo Ruiz with the WBA interim featherweight title on the line.
Rau’shee Warren will fight Nordine Oubaali for the vacant WBC bantamweight belt, and in the co-main event, light heavyweights Badou Jack and Marcus Browne will clash.
What Else Will Be On?

Pacquiao-Broner will be the premier sporting event on Saturday night, with some competition from the Houston Rockets-L.A.Lakers primetime game–especially if LeBron James returns, but Showtime’s boxing event figures to dominate social media engagement. Pac-Broner will get some serious competition from the UFC on Saturday too.
The promotion is making its ESPN debut with a champion-vs-champion bout between bantamweight titleholder TJ Dillashaw and flyweight king Henry Cejudo. If you’re a sports fan, you probably won’t have any problems finding something entertaining to watch over the weekend.
