Manny Pacquiao in talks over mega-money Floyd Mayweather rematch and Amir Khan bout

Manny Pacquiao has revealed that he has opened talks with Floyd Mayweather over a mouthwatering rematch - and is considering Amir Khan as an alternative opponent.

Mayweather outpointed Pacquiao in Las Vegas four years ago and both parties have since talked up a rematch.

But while Pacquiao has remained active - he beat Keith Thurman in July - Mayweather last fought in 2017 when he stopped UFC champion Conor McGregor .

Mayweather was ringside to see his old rival outpoint Thurman and win yet another world title, but has continued to distance himself from a second installment.

However Pacquiao has given a huge hint that the two could indeed fight again - though they are yet to finalise the plans.

He told The National : "My people are talking to his people, they’re talking to each other.

"We don’t know what the developments are, because I don’t have an update yet."

Should Mayweather refuse to the terms, then Pacquiao will be forced to look at other options with Khan and Errol Spence Jr touted as potential opponents.

Pacquiao is no stranger to Khan with the Brit a former sparring partner of the Filipino great when they trained at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card boxing gym in California.

The pair have previously been linked with a blockbuster bout but have yet to agree a date.

Pacquiao remains interested in fighting British boxer Khan, though, and says he is keen on meeting his rival on at Dubai's new Coca-Cola Arena.

Pacquiao said: “I’m planning for next year, trying to make it for next year with a possible opponent.

“Especially Amir Khan wants to fight me. We will talk again. It would be a good fight.

“We can discuss that, a fight between us. I have a commitment for my next fight - one fight only. But after that we can talk. No problem.”
