CHICAGO _ The White Sox hoped to get length Saturday out of starter Manny Banuelos.
It did not happen.
The Red Sox knocked the left-hander out of the game in the third. Boston scored nine runs and had 10 consecutive hits in the inning on the way to a 15-2 victory in front of 30,068 fans at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Banuelos lasted just 2 2/3 innings. He retired the first eight batters. But never got the ninth. All nine of Boston's runs in the inning were scored with two outs.
Banuelos had been effective, entering the game with a 2.70 ERA in 20 innings. It ballooned to 5.96 after the disastrous third. Banuelos surrendered four singles, three doubles and three home runs in the inning.
Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer to left and Michael Chavis followed with a solo blast to center. Eduardo Nunez added a two-run homer to left-center later in the inning.
The Red Sox sent 14 batters to the plate in the third. All nine had at least one hit in the inning.
The hit parade continued in the fourth, when the Red Sox scored five more runs while sending nine to the plate. The White Sox didn't do themselves any favor in the fourth, as first baseman Jose Abreu committed two errors.
Chavis hit another solo home run in the fifth. He had four of Boston's 20 hits. Christian Vazquez also had four hits while Andrew Benintendi had three hits.
Abreu had two hits, including his seventh homer of the season, and two RBIs.
The White Sox bullpen had been so spent that they used infielder Jose Rondon for the ninth inning during Friday's 6-1 loss. They didn't go in the direction of using a position player to pitch again Saturday.
