Manly keep Foran for 2022, extend others

Kieran Foran's Manly return will extend into a second NRL season after the Sea Eagles activated an option for the veteran five-eighth to stay on in 2022.

Foran's Manly homecoming was one of the feel-good stories of the summer, with the Kiwi half rekindling his 2011 premiership-winning halves combination with Daly Cherry-Evans.

The pair have largely done so with success, overcoming a poor start to the season to now be among the genuine threats to the competition.

His stint will now extend into at least 2022, with Manly also confirming they had re-signed Lachlan Croker and Morgan Harper until the end of 2023 this week.

Injury-prone and struggling to capture his best before arriving at Manly over the off-season, Foran has quickly become one of the most influential players at the club.

Youngsters speak almost to a man about the influence he has had on them, as well as his willingness to teach at training.

Crucially he has also missed just three games this season through injury, after battling through only 66 in his five years away from the club.

"It's a testament to the work he does off the field," Manly winger Reuben Garrick said.

"He's helped me a lot on the field ... especially with that experience.

"He's done plenty of things and even through injury setbacks he's such a professional.

"It's good to see as a younger player to see that and your mentors doing those sort of things."

Meanwhile Croker's extension after the former Canberra half found a home at hooker for Manly, easily being the club's most improved player in 2021.

It comes after a busy month for Manly on the retention front, also extending the stays of Garrick, Brad Parker, Toafofoa Sipley, Haumole Olakau'atu, Josh Schuster and Sean Keppier as the team found form on the field.
