Manipur: Journalist allegedly beaten up by Congress workers in Thoubal district

Elangbam Rameshwar, a correspondent with Imphal vernacular newspaper Naharolgi Thoudang, was allegedly beaten up inside his house on Sunday morning in Manipur’s Thoubal district by 20 persons, said to be members of the Congress’s block committee of the Heirok constituency, The Hindu reported.

The said workers allegedly raided Rameshwar’s residence on Sunday, and beat him up in front of his family members. Rameshwar is also the president of the Thoubal district Journalists’ Union. According to The Hindu, he was hospitalised as he sustained injuries from the attack.

The Journalists’ union demanded that appropriate action be taken against the said Congress workers involved in the attack. People also protested at Heirok road to demand justice for the local journalist.

The police told the newspaper that a case had been registered in the matter. However, no arrests have been made yet.
