Manipur CM N Biren Singh announces Rs 10L for cops involved in arms haul operation

IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for police officers of Thoubal district for seizing a huge cache of arms and ammunition in the valley district.

On Sunday afternoon, the police had recovered an AK-81 rifle, AK-86 rifle with magazines, one M16 A4-UBGL, M16 rifle with a magazine, one RPG launcher with a shell, 13 AK-56 rifles with as many magazines and over 200 bullets of different calibres.

After interrogating an alleged member of an underground outfit, police found the weapons concealed in a plastic water tank buried below a cowshed at the Huikap area. Three persons were arrested in connection with the seizure.

"I encourage the police personnel who seized the huge cache of weapons, including over 10 AK 47 rifles. Besides medals, the government will give cash award of Rs 10 lakh to all personnel who conducted the operation," Biren said.
