Manhunt underway as driver who ran over Garda in Dundrum feared to be part of crime gang

A driver at large who ran over a Garda on Sunday evening in Dundrum Shopping Centre is feared to be part of a crime gang in the area.

Gardai tried to stop a blue Fiat Bravo hatchback at Dundrum Town Centre that was allegedly connected with a previous theft in the area.

A member of the force was struck by the vehicle at speed when the driver failed to stop and fled from the scene at 6:45pm.

The Garda was dragged by the car for a distance before falling onto the road.

He was brought to St. Vincent's Hospital and is being treated for significant soft tissue injuries to his lower leg.

The blue Fiat Bravo was later recovered by Gardai at Kilcarrig Close in Tallaght with a Garda hunt underway for the driver who is understood to be part of a crime group that was planning a theft in the area.

Gardai are appealing to the public for information in relation to this incident.

A spokesman said: "If anyone is aware of the identity of the driver or has any information in relation to any individuals in this crime group, please contact Gardaí.

"Gardaí are also appealing for information in relation to the blue Fiat Bravo hatchback that was recovered at Kilcarrig Close, Tallaght.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dundrum Garda Station on 01 666 5600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
