A teenage boy and girl have been charged after a suspected stolen car rammed police cars, sent one officer to hospital and resulted in multiple shots being fired in a dramatic late-night pursuit.

The chase began about 9.15pm on Saturday when NSW police tried to stop a suspected stolen Citroen sedan in Blacktown, in Sydney's west.

When the car failed to stop, police followed it through multiple suburbs to Leichhardt, where it crashed into two parked cars, rammed three police vehicles and drove towards police.

During the stand-off between the occupants and police, the vehicle was reversed into a 27-year-old officer, causing him to fall and hit his head.

He was taken to hospital for concussion and has since been released.

Acting Superintendent Adam Solah said one officer fired their weapon at the car and another discharged a taser, but the driver was still able to flee the scene.

A short time later, police found the abandoned vehicle in a driveway in Petersham.

"We're very lucky that no one was killed, including police," Acting Supt Solah told reporters on Sunday.

About 2pm on Sunday, a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were arrested at a home in Erskineville and taken to Newtown Police Station.

The boy was charged with 10 offences including police pursuit, assaulting a police officer and five counts of destroy or damage property.

The girl was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and breach of bail.

They were both refused bail to appear before a Children's Court on Monday.

In a separate incident, police charged a man after a pursuit and siege in Sydney's northwest on Friday.

The 36-year-old man was charged with two counts of possession or use of a firearm without a permit, as well as drug possession and driving offences.

He was expected to appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
