A massive garda manhunt is underway after a gang of burglars rammed a garda car while trying to escape the scene of an attempted break-in.
According to gardai, a number of burglaries were reported in the Rochestown area of Cork City.
Officers responded to reports of a burglary in progress at a home on the Rochestown Road at around 3pm.
The suspect vehicle, which is described by witnesses as a silver car escaped the scene and 'rammed' a squad car.
The men are believed to have fled the scene and travelled close to the Jack Lynch Tunnel where they exited the care and ran across four lanes of traffic before making their way through marshy land in the direction of Mahon Golf Course.
The Garda Dog Unit were called in, as well as a helicopter, in an attempt to locate the individuals, two of whom are said to be wearing grey tracksuits of different shades.
According to gardai, one man, aged 28 was located and arrested.
The other two men remain at large.
In a statement, a garda spokeswoman said: "A number of burglaries occurred today, Thursday 12th September, 2019 at approximately 3p.m. in the Rochestown area of Cork City.
"Gardaí responded to reports of a burglary in progress and as a result a suspect vehicle that was attempting to leave the scene rammed a Garda Patrol car and left the scene.
"The suspect vehicle was eventually abandoned at Mahon Golf Club and as a result an extensive search commenced by a number of Garda members, assisted by the Garda Dog Unit and Air Support Unit.
"During the course of the search a number of stolen items were recovered.
"At approximately 6.40p.m. one man (28 years) was located and arrested.
"He is currently being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at Togher Garda Station.
"The search is ongoing."
