A manhunt is under way in western NSW after an inmate escaped a prison in Bathurst.
Alan Piper, 61, was reported missing from Bathurst Correctional Centre on the Mid-Western Highway about midday on Tuesday and was last seen wearing prison greens an hour earlier.
He is described as Caucasian, approximately 184cm tall with brown eyes, grey hair and an unshaven grey beard.
Police are searching the area and calling for anyone with information to contact them, warning the public not to approach Piper.
