Manhunt under way after man stabbed in East End of Newcastle

A man is in hospital after he was stabbed in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to Monkchester Road, Walker , at around 7.30pm on Saturday night to reports of a stabbing.

Paramedics arrived to find a man at a bus stop who had a stab wound and had also suffered facial injuries.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 7.36pm on Saturday night to reports of a patient injured at a bus stop on Monkchester Road.

"One ambulance crew attended where they found a man who had sustained a puncture wound and facial injuries.

"He was taken to hospital in a non life-threatening condition."

The attacker fled the scene and a manhunt has now been launched to find the person responsible.

A number of police vehicles, including the police dogs team, were visible at the scene with officers understood to have been searching drains.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 7.30pm to reports of a stabbing on Monkchester Road.

"A male who had sustained stab wounds was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

"Inquiries are ongoing."
