Manhunt on for County Durham robber on the run after escaping from prison

A manhunt has been launched for a fugitive robber who has escaped from prison.

Daniel Plaice, from County Durham , was jailed for or five years, 10 months last year after being convicted of attempted robbery, possession of a bladed article and burglary.

But the 40-year-old has now absconded from HMP Kirkham, in Preston, along with another prisoner.

Plaice, from Bishop Auckland, was last seen at around 6pm on Sunday with Steven Ford, who is from Stockton-on-Tees.

Ford, 41, was jailed for three years, six months, last year, for burglary and dangerous driving .

Lancashire Police is now appealing for help to trace the pair.

A spokeswoman said: "The pair are wanted for absconding from HMP Kirkham at around 6pm on Sunday 24 November. They were last seen together."

Plaice is described as being 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build. He has short brown straight hair, blue eyes and speaks with a North East accent.

He also a number of distinctive tattoos on his neck, arms and legs including a Tasmanian devil wearing a death cloak, ‘Made in England’ and a skull with dagger.

Police say Plaice has links to Cleveland, Durham, Cumbria and Lancashire.

Ford is described as being 5ft 11ins tall  and of medium to large build. He has short brown hair and blue eyes. He also speaks with a North East accent.

Ford has tattoos including ‘Angel’ on his neck, a bulldog on his shoulder and ‘Fordy’ on his left hand.

He has links to Cleveland and Lancashire.
