Manhunt ends in arrest after violent home invasions, robberies

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man over a series of violent armed robberies and home invasions on the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

An emergency was declared in the Gold Coast hinterland on Sunday afternoon, where Ben Andrew Goring had led police on a hunt.

More than 40 officers, the dog squad and a police helicopter were searching the Numinbah Valley region all day.

Goring was believed to have abandoned a stolen BMW X5 off the road near Advancetown in the Numinbah Valley.

He was one of two men thought to be on the run after they allegedly fired rifle shots into the front door of a house at Upper Coomera on Saturday night after allegedly stealing a car from one of the property's occupants.

They then allegedly continued their spree by entering a house and taking a gold Kia Sportage, before stealing the BMW X5 from an elderly woman's home in Carrara in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police said Goring was arrested late Sunday afternoon when he tried to crash through a police road barrier on Nerang Murwillumbah Road.
