Manhunt ends: arrest connected to fatal shooting on the Central Coast

SUPPORTIVE: Northern Region commander Assistant Commissioner Max Mitchell said he met with the officers involved in the Central Coast shooting yesterday.

A MANHUNT has come to an end after police arrested a 46 year old at Springfield, in an operation connected to the fatal shooting on the Central Coast last week.

Tuggerah Lakes police were called to Minnesota Road at Hamlyn Terrace, near Wyong, on Thursday about 9am after tracking a stolen car to the area following an earlier pursuit.

Northern Region commander Assistant Commissioner Max Mitchell said last week that officers spotted the vehicle at a property when a 37-year-old man allegedly raised a firearm at police before he was fatally shot.

At the same time, police were scouring bushland in pursuit of another man and urging members of the public to shelter in place or avoid the area.

Following the shooting, detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad launched a manhunt for the 46-year-old man, who was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants.

Following extensive inquiries, the man was arrested at a home on Willow Road, Springfield, about 6.30pm Sunday.

He was taken to Gosford Police Station, where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), and two outstanding warrants.

The man was refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Monday.

A critical incident investigation into the shooting, which is being led by detectives from the Homicide Squad, is under way.

All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man's death.
