A manhunt is under way after a young woman was raped in the middle of an east London town centre, the Metropolitan Police said.
The victim in her 30s reported being attacked in Walthamstow Town Square around 6am on Sunday.
Police responded and cordoned off a large section of the shopping, leisure and transport hub from High Street to Selborne Road.
There have been no arrests at this stage and the investigation is ongoing.
The location is close to Walthamstow Central Underground station.
On Facebook one local responded: “This is awful. I hope this poor lady will be ok.
“I can’t imagine what she’s going through.”
A force spokesman said: “Police are investigating after a woman reported that she had been raped in Walthamstow Town Square in the early hours on Sunday, June 29.
“Enquiries are ongoing and a crime scene is in place.”
