Manhunt after police officer's eye socket broken and another's shoulder dislocated during Covent Garden brawl days before Christmas

An off-duty police officer had their eye socket smashed while another suffered a dislocated shoulder while attempting to break up a brawl in Covent Garden.

Scotland Yard is appealing for information following the incident, which happened days before Christmas, and officers have identified three men they wish to speak to.

The two victims, who both required hospital treatment, were in The Maple Leaf pub on December 20 when a fight broke out shortly after 7pm.

They tried to intervene between the two sparring groups and as they did so were punched by three men.

The trio then fled the Maiden Lane establishment.

The Met Police has released the above CCTV of three men it hopes to speak to after the incident.

Detective Constable Karl Lewis, from Central West CID, said: “These officers were enjoying an evening out when they witnessed a fight which they tried to prevent becoming more serious.

“In doing so, they themselves were set upon and injured, leaving them with significant injuries.

“We are urging anyone who knows the men in this CCTV footage to come forward and speak to us."

Those with information can call 101 with reference 6988/20Dec19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
