Manhole warning to Falkirk drivers after night of thunderstorms and heavy rain

Drivers in Falkirk are being urged to watch out for open manholes after a night of torrential rain and floods.

Council bosses say that they've had a number of reports of lids lifting off drains because of the volume of water.

They're warning that when driving open manholes can be hard to spot in flood water.

A Met Office yellow 'be aware' alert remains in place across the district for heavy showers, which could lead to the risk of more flooding.

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: "Weather conditions now starting to deteriorate.

"We have had calls of manhole lids lifting due to volume of water. These cannot always be seen due to the water.

"Please take care if out driving or walking. Squads are mobile to deal with emergencies as we are notified of them."
