MANGALURU: A labourer working on a barge off Tannirbhavi, in an operation to salvage sunken vessel Ocean Blessing, died after he sustained a head injury, while at work on Wednesday.
The deceased is Naseeruddin Khan,32. Police said that the incident was reported at 5.10pm, when the labourers were reportedly trying to tie the barge’s anchor rope. Naseeruddin was allegedly holding an iron handle that fell on his head.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he died late in the evening. It is learnt that the labourers, despite doing dangerous work, were not being provided with safety gear. Panambur police have registered a case, and an investigation is on.
