Mangaluru: Goonda Act on 2 criminals confirmed

MANGALURU: City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that the two Goonda Act proposals have been confirmed by the high court and the home department has accordingly passed an order for one year.

Appreciating the teamwork, the commissioner said on Tuesday that DG and IGP Praveen Sood has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh to the Mangaluru police team for the good work.

The city police had invoked provisions of Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Boot Leggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum Grabbers and Video or Audio Pirates Act 1985 (Goonda Act) against two notorious criminals Mohammad Nawaz alias Pinky Nawaz, 27 and Rohidas alias Akash Bhavan Sharan alias Sharan alias Charan, 37.

Between 2008-2022, Rohidas was involved in more than 20 criminal cases such as murder, attempt to murder, rape, robbery, preparation for dacoity, hurt and criminal conspiracy and was also booked under the SC/ST Act, Arms Act, Excise Act.

Nawaz from Surathkal, is accused of being involved in several criminal cases such as murder, attempt to murder, assault on police, theft, extortion, robbery. He was also booked under the Arms Act and is accused of threatening witnesses, criminal conspiracy and abetment.

In the past five years, more than 15 cases have been booked against him of which 12 cases are in the city limits.
