Mandy Patinkin has revealed the story behind a famous scene from The Princess Bride at the request of a grieving fan.
A video on TikTok from a lady named Amanda went viral who said that Patinkin’s line: “I want my father back, you son of a b****” resonated with her after her own father’s passing. In the video she asked whether the rumour was true that Patinkin was thinking of his own late father when filming the scene.
Patinkin later responded with a video of his own and confirmed the rumour: “First of all, your dad is taking care of you. Secondly, it is true. 100 per cent true. From the minute I read the script, I said I’m gonna do this part because in my mind, if I get the six-fingered guy that means I kill the cancer that killed my dad.”
The actor later elaborated on Twitter and shared that his father died when he was 18 and addressed Amanda directly: “Thank you for sharing this with us. We are so sorry for your loss, so moved that this movie meant something to you and your dad.
“We hope you find all kinds of ways to keep the memory of him alive and all kinds of ways to move forward & through this pain and loss.”
Patinkin concluded by saying: “Thank you for sharing this with us Amanda. Big big love to you and your family and your dad.”
As well as The Princess Bride, Patinkin is also known for his performances in Homeland, Yentl and Criminal Minds.
