Mandy: Exclusive clip from thriller described as Nicolas Cage's best performance

Although Nicolas Cage has had a career filled with memorable performances (whatever you may think of them), his latest film features what critics are calling his best work yet.

Mandy is directed by Panos Cosmatos, the son of Tombstone director George P. Cosmatos, who made his debut with 2012's surreal Beyond the Black Rainbow.

Set in 1983, the film stars Cage as Red Miller, a man living in the wilderness near the Shadow Mountains, in California's Mojave Desert, with his girlfriend Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough).

However, their peaceful existence comes crashing down when a band of ravaging idolaters and supernatural creatures arrive at their front door, and Red must hunt the villains down to exact his vengeance.

The film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, with critics praising Cosmatos's highly-artful, gonzo approach, making Mandy the perfect canvas for Cage's own inimitable acting style.

Mandy is out in UK cinemas 12 October and out on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital Download 29 October
