- The European Commission has asked its anti-fraud agency, Olaf, to open an inquiry into Lord Peter Mandelson's time as trade commissioner in Brussels (2004-2008) following the release of the Epstein files.
- This request comes days after the former Labour peer was arrested in London on suspicion of misconduct in public office, linked to claims he leaked sensitive government information to Jeffrey Epstein.
- UK police are also investigating Lord Mandelson's contact with Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as Business Secretary in Gordon Brown's government.
- The recently released Epstein files include an email exchange where Lord Mandelson appeared to confirm a yet-to-be-announced €500bn Euro bailout to Epstein.
- Separately, the government has confirmed that Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) will have the final say on publishing documents related to Lord Mandelson's appointment as ambassador to Washington. Lord Mandelson has denied any wrongdoing.
