Greater Manchester once again shows its support for our NHS heroes as thousands take part in mass round of applause on their doorsteps

Mancunians showed their gratitude to our NHS heroes once more as they joined hands to clap for carers on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

People across the region banged pots and pans and cheered in unison as they burst into a round of applause at their doorsteps and on their balconies.

Clap For Our Carers has become a weekly ritual at 8pm every Thursday to celebrate the key workers helping the ill and vulnerable across the nation.

People posted videos on social media during the nationwide clap.

Jane Fairweather posted a video of security guards clapping outside the Nightingale North West field hospital.

She wrote: " @G4S_Events at the Nightingale North West are proud to be supporting the NHS and all our carers...we stand with you."

While Megan Kate posted: "Week 3 and still a strong crowd in Manchester city centre for the #ClapForTheNHS #ClapForOurCarers."

Why people are clapping for our carers...

The UK has gone into lockdown to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and to ease pressure on the NHS.

But scores of key workers are out and about in the community to make sure that people are safe, fed and cared for during this national crisis.

That's why the nation has been joining hands to show their appreciation for the doctors, nurses, supermarket staff and teachers who are keeping the country running.

The Clap For Our Carers campaign was the idea of Dutch yoga teacher Annemarie Plas who lives in London.

She took to social media to spread the word, with millions of people across the nation joining the first clap on Thursday, March 26.

Tonight was the third time people got involved.
