Mancunian Way closure: Everything you need to know amid busy weekend of parades, football and concerts

The Mancunian Way will be shut this weekend for its annual repairs.

The A635(M) between Pin Mill Brow and Chester Road roundabout will be shut. There will also be roadworks taking place on Trinity Way, affecting southbound journeys.

The closure will be in place from 5am on Saturday March 12 until 7pm on Sunday March 13.

Following the accidents which have taken place in recent months, it is essential that this maintenance is carried out. The work will include safety inspections, road repairs, inspections to lighting, street sweeping drainage, and general maintenance to improve the road.

There will be signed diversions in place for the duration of the closure of Mancunian Way.

Drivers are being asked to plan ahead if driving into or around the city as there are big events which will impact traffic.

At the AO Arena on Saturday, Manchester Thunder are playing against Leeds Rhinos in the netball from 5.30pm and on Sunday, The Wanted are playing. Sunday will also see the Irish parade through the city centre.

It is also matchday at Old Trafford with Manchester United playing Tottenham Hot Spurs. Typically on a matchday, 86,000 cars use the Mancunian Way and Transport for Greater Manchester are suggesting alternative routes and are encouraging the use of public transport whenever possible.

However, if you are planning on driving through the city centre, or your journey goes east to west or vice versa, TfGM suggest using the M60 instead.

Similarly, if you are attending the United v Spurs fixture, TfGM strongly encourages you to use public transport, or, the M60.

Finally, due to the Irish parade taking place in Manchester, a number of roads will be closed:

  • Queens Road (westbound) 10am to 2.30pm

  • Queens Road (eastbound) 11.30am to 2.30pm

  • Cheetham Hill Road 11.30am to 2.30pm.
