Mancs hit the parks and beer gardens to soak up the sun – and it’s going to get even hotter

Mancs have filled the city’s parks and beer gardens to soak up the summer heatwave - which is set to see Manchester hotter than Tenerife next week. The scorcher of a weekend will see temperatures hit 21C today, before climbing to a sweltering 27C on Monday

Health officials have issued a five-day health warning from Monday, as the nation is set to see the UK’s longest heatwave in four years - but in the city centre, summer looks to be in full swing.

And we can expect more of the same over the coming week, with the heat set to continue for long enough for us to start to forget what a Manchester summer usually looks like.

The Met Office issued a Level 2 heat-health alert in the area starting on Monday, with the North West predicted to experience extremely high temperatures. The alert will stay in place until 9am on Friday, July 15.

The UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned people to take care in the extreme heat.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: "Heat-health alerts have now been issued to the majority of the country, with temperatures set to remain consistently high throughout the duration of next week. Most of us can enjoy the hot weather when it arrives, but it is important to keep yourself hydrated and to find shade where possible when UV rays are strongest, between 11am and 3pm.

"If you have vulnerable family, friends and neighbours, make sure they are aware of how they can keep themselves protected from the warm weather."

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, David Oliver, said: “The warm weather over much of England and Wales could last for much of next week. In the short term, many can expect temperatures in the mid to high 20s Celsius over the weekend, and then in the low 30s Celsius during the start of next week. Much of next week will remain warm for the time of year as well as dry and sunny for many areas.”
