Manchester weather: Spring is in the air with temperatures set to soar this week

Spring will be in the air in Greater Manchester this week with temperatures soaring to well above the average for March.

Forecasters at the Met Office have said high pressure is dominating UK weather patterns this week, bringing long spells of sunshine.

There will also be a light breeze, dry conditions and it will be feeling mild.

At the start of the week temperatures are expected to remain around 12C to 13C up until Thursday.

On Friday temperatures are expected to rise even more, with highs of 16C expected.

This means Manchester could be hotter than Crete. The Greek Island only expected to experience highs of 13C on Friday.

By Saturday it will cool down again, but temperatures are still expected to remain above 10C.

There is also a greater risk of rain showers developing on Saturday.

In the evenings the mercury is likely to drop to 5C to 7C.

Due to the clear skies it could be there will be some chilly evenings and frosty evenings this week.

According to The Weather Channel, some forecasts indicate the Spring-like conditions will be disrupted by lower pressure developing across southern areas by the weekend brining more unsettled weather with less sunshine.

However, there is still a possibility that the high pressure could move eastwards which would allow warmer air to rise upwards creating balmy conditions.

Richard Miles, meteorologist for the Met Office, said: "It will be generally settled, fine, with maybe the odd chance of a few showers.

"By and large it will be dry and relatively mild for this time of year, all of the way through to Saturday.

"There might be more of a chance of a shower on Saturday.

"We are under the influence of high pressure at the moment. It will be a mild and pleasant spring week."

He added: "Today we are looking at temperatures of 12C-13C. It will stay like that for the first half of the week.

"It might get a bit warmer on Friday, with highs of 14C to 16C. This is above average for England, this time of year is usually under 10C."
