Manchester weather: It's been a very, very wet start to the day... but there's a glimmer of hope

It's been a very, very wet start to the day across Greater Manchester.

But there's a glimmer of hope.

Forecasters say that once the showers clear, we're in for crisp, Autumnal conditions.

It'll be frosty... but anything's better than this absolute deluge, right?

According to the Met Office, we're set for rain throughout Tuesday morning and afternoon.

There could even be some thunder and lightning to the south of the region.

Heavy winds are expected, with the risk of gales in more exposed areas.

By lunchtime, the wind and rain will start to ease.

And by this evening, it could be a lot drier.

Forecasters have said there will be a 'crispy and sunny' start to Wednesday, with blue skies throughout the day.

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 14C - and wind speeds are expected to drop.

Unfortunately, the weather is likely to be unsettled again on Thursday. There's a risk of heavy rain and strong winds.

Saturday is expected to start dry, but wet conditions will move in later.

Next week is likely to remain wet and windy across Greater Manchester and the north west.

A statement on the Met Office website reads: "Into the weekend it is likely that unsettled, wet and windy weather will continue to dominate, especially in the north and west with the risk of coastal gales

"During the following week and beyond, the unsettled weather may begin to become more generally confined to the north and west of the UK, with occasional spells of drier and brighter weather, particularly in the south and east.

"Temperatures are likely to vary around average, although some cold nights are possible under any clear skies. This may also bring an increased risk of mist and fog overnight and into the mornings."

Grahame Made, spokesman for the Met Office, said: "Tomorrow we have a ridge of high pressure developing across the UK.

"It will be bring a clear start. In the North West it looks reasonably clear, it should be dry, bright and sunny."
