Here is your Chelsea digest for Thursday, August 13.
Havertz competition
Manchester United could try to hijack Chelsea's deal to sign Kai Havertz following their attempts to secure Jadon Sancho, according to reports on Wednesday.
United's hopes over sealing a deal to sign Sancho appear to be fading and they could be set to turn their attentions to Havertz.
Chelsea have long been leading the race to sign the attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen but the Red Devils could well be a late rival for his signature.
The highly-rated youngster scored his 18th goal of the season in Monday evening’s Europa League quarter-final against Inter Milan, but Leverkusen were eliminated after losing 2-1.
Reguilon transfer dilemma
While Ben Chilwell has often been the name shouted loudest in Chelsea’s pursuit of a new left-back, Sergio Reguilon is also very much in the mix.
The defender looked set for a breakthrough at Real Madrid after making his debut under Julen Lopetegui, but Zinedine Zidane didn’t see him as part of his plans this season.
This led to a loan move to Sevilla, and a reunion with Lopetegui, and Glenn Hoddle spoke glowingly of the Spanish under-21 international ahead of his team’s Europa League quarter-final victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
And Tom Victor believes Reguilon has given Chelsea a transfer window dilemma.
Kepa’s fatal moment
Frank Lampard is believed to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer and being left unimpressed with Kepa Arrizabalaga.
In the dying moments of the 5-3 defeat at Anfield, the goalkeeper's inaction led to puzzled shouts and looks from his outfielders.
And our man Alan Smith believes this could be the moment Kepa lost his Chelsea team-mates and sealed his fate as Lampard's No1.
