Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi attracting loan interest

Manchester United have received interest from clubs interested in taking Dylan Levitt and Teden Mengi on loan until the end of the season

MEN Sport understands there has been significant interest in both Levitt and Mengi from Championship and League One clubs — though both could be kept at United, as club staff weigh up the youngsters' futures.

United recalled Welsh midfielder Levitt from his loan move at Charlton Atheltic this month, as they were concerned the 20-year-old wasn't getting enough game time. Levitt made just three league appearances for the League One side.

But despite interest from Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers, among other Championship and League One sides, Levitt could remain with the United Under-23s.

Fellow midfielder Ethan Galbraith and goalkeeper Matej Kovar may also leave on loan, while clubs have registered their interest in Under-23s skipper Mengi. The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in the summer and is technically the fifth-choice centre-back at the club, given Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are surplus to requirements.

Levitt and Kovar were recalled from Charlton and Swindon respectively this month, with United assessing their next steps.

“Dylan is a professional lad and a very talented footballer," Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said. "I'd like to thank Nicky Butt and Manchester United for allowing us to bring in Dylan on loan. He worked hard during his time here and we wish him the best for the future.

"Dylan hasn’t done anything wrong. He hasn’t had as many minutes as he’d have liked or we’d have liked him to have, but the middle of the park is probably our strongest area."

Centre-back Di'Shon Bernard extended his loan stay at Salford City last week, while young goalkeeper Jacob Carney joined Irish side Portadown FC on loan. Another keeper in Nathan Bishop could also get a loan exit.

United have also sent out right-back Ethan Laird to MK Dons until the end of the season, while James Garner, Aliou Traore, Tahith Chong and Diogo Dalot all remain attached to the club but away on loan.
