Manchester United youngster Jacob Carney has joined League One side, Sunderland, on a two-year deal.
United confirmed on Thursday that Carney would be one of eight players released by the club after their contracts expired.
However, he wasn't without a club for long as League One outfit Sunderland decided to sign the 20-year-old on a two-year contract, with an option of a further year, a move that Carney admitted he was delighted with.
"I’ve heard really good things about Lee Johnson, Lee Butler and Mark Prudhoe, but I’m also looking forward to working with Lee Burge and Anthony Patterson", Carney told Sunderland's website.
"I’m buzzing to be at such a massive club and to have the deal over the line – I’m really looking forward to it."
He spent 11 years at Old Trafford but with so many top young 'keepers in the United ranks right now, the decision was made not to retain him beyond the end of his contract.
The youngster will likely feature for The Black Cats youth team next season, or even be loaned out in a bid to gain first-team opportunities - something he enjoyed at Northern Irish side Portadown last season as he featured 26 times for The Ports during his time at Shamrock Park.
