Manchester United youngster sends message after returning from long-term injury lay-off

Young Manchester United centre-back Willy Kambwala has stressed his delight at finally making a return to action following an 11-month injury lay-off.

The youngster, who joined United from French club Sochaux in October last year, suffered a serious injury just weeks into his time in England, resulting in him being absent for almost a year.

However, after a long road to recovery, Kambwala, who turned 17-years-old last month, made his long-awaited return to action on Saturday, stepping off the bench as United's Under-18s thrashed Birmingham City's Under-18s 8-2 away from home in the Premier League Cup.

On what proved to be a memorable and enjoyable afternoon for United's youngsters, Kambwala, who picked up his injury problem in a friendly with Salford City last year, stepped off the bench for the final 20 minutes of the contest.

On making his long-awaited return, the defender, posting on his Instagram page, said: "After 11 months away from the field I am very happy to have made my return with the team this weekend, to play for a few minutes and to come back with a victory that's the reason for my smile.

"To God all the Glory."

Now that he has made his return, the defender, who has played for France at youth-level, will be hoping to kick-on and make a name for himself for United's Under-18s, no doubt with an eye on developing and making the step-up to the Under-23s and then beyond.

Kambwala is very highly rated by those at United and he will now be hoping to nail down a place in the Under-18s this season.
