Manchester United youngster sends classy message after being released

Manchester United youngster Dion McGhee has taken to social media to send a message of thanks to the club.

It became apparent this week that the 19-year-old will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the month when his contract expires.

The midfielder has been at the club since the age of six, and made nine Premier League 2 Division 2 appearances for the U23 side this season.

On Wednesday, the teenager sent a tweet reading “time for a new challenge” before quickly deleting the post.

McGhee has now taken to Twitter again to send a message following the news that he will be changing clubs in the summer.

“Since the age of 6, all I’ve known is Manchester United,” he wrote.

“I’ve gone through the youth ranks and learned a lot within the academy. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Manchester United Football Club, staff, players, coaches, managers and the fans who have helped and influenced me to become the player I am today.

“I’m excited at the new opportunities coming up and I’m ready for the next challenge. Thank you all! Once a red, always a red.”

A source close to the player told the MEN McGhee has spoken to clubs in Italy, Spain and Portugal as well as some Championship teams in search for a new club ahead of next season
