Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird has been handed a potential boost on transfer deadline day.
Laird, 20, left United to join Swansea City on loan in the summer transfer window and looks to set for an extensive run in the first-team following developments in South Wales.
The young right back had initially been brought to the club as cover for the injured Connor Roberts but is now set to permanently replace him as a regular in the starting line up.
Swansea have sanctioned the sale of Roberts to Premier League side Burnley on deadline day meaning Laird is set to be a regular in the Championship for the forthcoming season.
Laird has started the last two league matches for Swansea in a right wing-back role and is impressing under the guidance of former MK Dons boss Russell Martin.
The young defender is highly regarded by United coaches and he could transform his career if he manages to stay injury free and impress during his loan spell this season.
United are still on the lookout for a new attacking option at right-back having held an interest in signing Kieran Trippier during the current window.
Trippier, 30, has entered the last year of his Atletico contract and wanted to join boyhood club United this window but has been effectively priced out of a move. Diogo Dalot is now due to stay at United as cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
United are expected to revisit the possibility of signing a new full back next year, though their plans could potentially be altered if Laird flourishes while at Swansea.
