Manchester United youngster apologises after 'disrespectful' Liverpool comments

Manchester United teenager Charlie McNeill has apologised for 'disrespectful' comments aimed towards Liverpool this week.

McNeill netted in the 2-0 FA Youth Cup third round win over Salford City on Wednesday and United will play Liverpool in the next round should their rivals overcome Sutton United.

The 17-year-old forward - who has scored 15 goals this term - told a post-match interview he hoped to 'rub it in Liverpool’s faces' by beating them in the prestigious academy competition.

But on Thursday morning McNeill released a statement regarding his conduct on social media.

He wrote: “I just wanted to say my interview last night, I said a thing I probably shouldn’t have said and I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful to anyone!

“I have learnt from my mistake and I’ll take this on into the future.”

Liverpool take on Sutton United at their academy in Kirkby on Tuesday March 16.
