Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes reveals his footballing hero growing up

Angel Gomes has revealed his favourite player to watch as a youngster as he prepares for a huge season in his development.

Gomes was speaking after impressing in Manchester United's pre-season win over Perth Glory, where he put in arguably his most impressive performance for the first team.

The youngster was lively on the left of midfield, and helped Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's men break down a stubborn defence.

Gomes is one of four academy stars included in the tour squad, along with Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood and James Garner.

And in a video put out by the club, fans could get to know Gomes and teammate Chong slightly better in a 'one-on-one' format.

Answering questions about each other, Gomes and Chong gave an insight into the United dressing room, as it was revealed Gomes has the best banter among the pair, and he is the first to start cracking jokes in the morning - much to the annoyance of Chong.

Gomes also revealed his love for Ronaldinho, who he says was his hero growing up. "I watched Ronaldinho before I watched Messi", he said when Chong questioned why Lionel Messi was not his idol.

In other answers, Chong explained how basketball is his favourite sport to follow outside of football, while both players agreed that Gomes' super power would be to grow a bit.

The talented youngsters will hope to make more appearances for Solskjaer's side in pre-season, with United next facing old enemies Leeds United in Perth on Wednesday.
