Manchester United youngster Amad explains why he chose to represent Ivory Coast

Manchester United youngster Amad has explained why he chose to represent the Ivory Coast.

Amad completed a £37million transfer to United from Atalanta in January and was called up to the Ivory Coast senior squad for the first time in March.

The 18-year-old has played for the Ivory Coast three times and scored his first international goal in the friendly win over Burkina Faso earlier this month.

Amad was born in Abidjan but moved to Italy at a young age and joined the Atalanta academy. Amad obtained an Italian passport in December to complete his move to United but chose to play for the country of his birth.

In a swift Q&A on Instagram, when asked why he chose the Ivory Coast, Amad explained: "Because you grow up in your own country before you grow up in another."

Amad scored his first United goal with an innovative header against AC Milan in the Europa League round-of-16 and made starts against Leicester and Wolves.

During the Q&A, he added his favourite Ivory Coast legend is Didier Drogba, that it was an 'incredible feeling' to play with Bruno Fernandes and expressed his approval for Hannibal Mejbri switching his international allegiance from France to Tunisia.
