Manchester United XI vs Nottingham Forest: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest

Manchester United make changes for today’s Premier League meeting with Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils are still without new signing Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund joined United with a back issue but is closing in a return to fitness and Erik ten Hag has confirmed he is closing in on a place in the squad.

“Today, for the first time, he came into team training,” said Ten Hag on Friday.

“Next week we expect him to do a full week with all the team trainings. So he's very near to making the squad.”

Anthony Martial starts up front in an effort to freshen up the Red Devils’ ailing attack after playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley in midweek.

Mason Mount misses out due to a hamstring injury which will likely lead to a recall for Christian Eriksen.

Luke Shaw has also been ruled out, meaning Diogo Dalot should step into the left-back slot with Tyrell Malacia also absent long-term.

On his absent players, Ten Hag told reporters: “We can't [put a timescale on Shaw]. It’s personal these days. They will be absent for a period, where Luke will be longer than Mason.

“[Malacia] will also take a few weeks before he will be back. Definitely, we have the solutions in our squad to cope with that. We thought before the season about this scenario, it could happen, you hope to avoid. But if it happens you have to be ready for it.”

Starting Man Utd XI: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez; Dalot Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial

Subs: Henderson, Lindelof, Maguire, Snaco, Pellistri, McTominay, Fernandez, Gore, Garnacho

Doubts: Maguire, Heaton

Time and date: 3pm BST, Saturday August 26, 2023

Venue: Old Trafford
