Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made eight changes for Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final with Norwich City this evening, with Jesse Lingard back in the starting XI.
The midfielder was left out of the squad that beat Sheffield United 3-0 on Wednesday due to illness. But Solskjaer had already confirmed he will be involved at Carrow Road.
“He has come back after the lock down with a smile on his face and loads of energy,” said the United manager. “Last week he fell ill for a couple of days, but we have done all the tests and he’s fine. He will be involved against Norwich now.
“Hopefully he can kick on. He has scored vital goals for us, and has been a vital player for us. Let’s see what the future will hold. At the moment he is looking really sharp and focused.”
Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are the only players to retain their starting berths following the midweek win over the Blades.
United have another long trip to Brighton in the Premier League on Tuesday, so Solskjaer is determined to manage his squad during a hectic end to the season.
“It’s the situation we’re in, and circumstances,” he told the club’s website. “Of course we’re playing so many games in a short space of time, and it’s great seeing the players being in good form.
“I know that we’ve got so many others wanting to play as well, so there will have to be a few changes, because there’s a game again on Tuesday and then Saturday.”
