Manchester United XI vs Newcastle: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup, injury latest for Premier League

Ruben Amorim has been handed a fresh Manchester United selection dilemma - (London Standard)

Manchester United host Newcastle on Boxing Day in a huge Premier League game for Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils have had two disappointing results on the bounce with a loss to Aston Villa in their last game coming on the back of a 4-4 draw with Bournemouth.

Man Utd have not won at home since October and Amorim will want to give supporters a belated Christmas present.

However, Bruno Fernandes will not feature after picking up a suspected hamstring injury against Villa so the team will have to be slightly altered.

Senne Lammens is expected start in goal while the three centre-backs are likely to be Luke Shaw, Lenny Yoro and Ayden Heaven once again, unless Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are ready to return from injury.

Patrick Dorgu should get the nod at left-wing back after registering an assist and having a decent game against Aston Villa while Diogo Dalot is the clear option on the opposite flank with Noussair Mazraoui away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In the absence of Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez is an option to partner Manuel Ugarte in central midfield having done so, and impressively, in the second at Villa Park.

Though, as Martinez is still returning from a long-term knee injury and has not started a game since February, Casemiro could step in after serving a one-match suspension

Meanwhile, forward trio is likely to be Mason Mount, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko is still very much finding his feet and has not scored since the start of October but Joshua Zirkzee is not in much better form and Amorim seems to prefer the Slovenian.

Mount has been playing consistently well for weeks and works hard off the ball which is vital against a team like Newcastle, and with Bryan Mbeumo and Fernandes out of the team, Cunha is the only real goal threat in the United ranks.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Yoro, Heaven, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Dorgu; Mount, Cunha; Sesko

Injured: Fernandes, Mainoo, Maguire, De Ligt

Unavailable: Amad, Mbeumo, Mazraoui

Time and date: 8pm GMT on Friday, December 26, 2025
