Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will give Luke Shaw every chance to recover from an ankle injury to start Manchester United’s clash with Crystal Palace.
The left back twisted his ankle in Monday’s draw with Southampton and will face further tests on Wednesday and Thursday morning to see if he can be involved at Selhurst Park.
United also have doubts over Brandon Williams who suffered a gash above his eye in the that match.
But Solskjaer insists Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea will play no part in his team selection.
United missed out on the chance to move up to third when they conceded an injury time equaliser against Southampton. It leaves them in fifth place on goal difference and facing nervous end to the season in their bid to secure Champions League football.
The team selection for Thursday is based on Thursday, not Sunday,” he said. “Sunday is irrelevant and does not come into my head at all. Just Thursday.
“There were a couple of doubts before the Southampton game, but they all reported fit on the day and hopefully we can give them time now to leave players out because of injury. But there might be one or two fresh legs coming in.
“Luke has got a swollen ankle. I’ll give him as much time as possible to recover. It was a twisted ankle.
“Brandon cut up his eye. None of them trained yesterday, they were both swollen and I’ll give them as much time as possible to let the swolling go away.”
Monday’s draw was United’s first real setback since the restart, but they are still on a run of 18 games without defeat.
Solskjaer delivered this message to his players: “Just keep on doing what we’ve been doing. Trust yourselves, you’re at a club where it always boils down to the last couple of weeks of the season.
“We’ve done fantastic since we restarted, had a great run, a little bit of a setback is a test for mentalities.”
