Manchester United Women wrap up league title victory by beating Crystal Palace

Manchester United Women have won their first piece of silverware, wrapping up the FA Women's Championship title by thrashing Crystal Palace 7-0.

Four goals from Lauren James, plus goals from Jess Sigsworth, Lizzie Arnot and Leah Galton gave Casey Stoney's side a huge win at Leigh Sports Village, meaning they are champions with two games to spare.

The win moves United onto 49 points from 19 games, seven clear of second place Tottenham.

It marks the end of a successful first season for former England international Stoney, who took on the manager's job at United after they were formed last summer.

They will compete in the Women's Super League next season alongside rivals Man City, who have dominated the sport in recent years.

"When they came together last summer, they were effectively 21 strangers coming in to a room," said Stoney.

"It's quite incredible where we're at, in terms of the team togetherness. That's not by chance."
