Manchester United Women sign Lionesses star Nikita Parris from Arsenal

Manchester United Women have announced the signing of Nikita Parris.

The England international forward has joined United from Women's Super League rivals Arsenal on a contract running until 2024. Parris returns to Manchester three years on from her departure from neighbours Manchester City, where she enjoyed great success in winning the WSL as well as the FA Cup and WSL Cup two times apiece.

The 28-year-old left the Blues, after netting 33 goals in 59 league games, in 2019 for serial Champions League winners Lyon. She got her hands on Europe's top prize in 2020 before returning to England last summer with the Gunners. Parris is a tenured England international with 67 caps to her name and was a member of Sarina Wiegman's triumphant Lionesses squad that won the European Championships by defeating Germany 2-1 at Wembley last Sunday.

"It feels unbelievable to be here. It’s been quite a summer, and this tops it off," Parris said. "Manchester United is an historic club who are making big movements in the WSL and I can’t wait to be a part of our future success.

"With my winning mentality in matches and training, I want to help this team move forward and grow. I’m not the only new signing this summer, which shows the intention of the club to do exactly that. I’m so happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.”

United boss Marc Skinner added: “Nikita’s winning pedigree will be a great addition to our team. She is a proven winner on both the domestic and international stage and will bring a real maturity to the environment.

"Securing a player of Nikita’s calibre cements this great club’s ambition for the season ahead and we look forward to welcoming her into pre-season, after a well-deserved rest!”
