Manchester United will play Premier League rivals West Ham in Carabao Cup third round

Manchester United will take on David Moyes' West Ham in the Carabao Cup third round - after the Premier League sides were drawn out of the hat together.

Chasing a first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Old Trafford giants were last winners of this competition in 2017 - shortly before Jose Mourinho also guided them to the Europa League crown.

Since then, the United supporters have been made to wait for more silverware to add to their historic collection.

Winners of the Carabao Cup five times - including three victories in five seasons between 2006 and 2010 - United have watched closely as neighbours Manchester City have monopolised this particular domestic competition with four straight successful campaigns.

On the eve of tomorrow afternoon's Champions League group stage draw, United have already discovered when and where they will kick-off their domestic cup change.

Indeed, they have been pitted against the Hammers in a home clash that will take place at Old Trafford.

A number of teams from lower down the EFL pyramid remain in the competition, such as League Two neighbours Rochdale and recently-promoted Cheltenham from League One.

As things stand, round three matches will take place on the week commencing September 20.

Meanwhile, for clubs who already have one eye on the Wembley showpiece - including City and United - that will take place beneath the famous arch on Sunday, February 27.

Exact dates, kick-off times and TV schedules for the above ties will be announced in due course.
