Manchester United have revealed they will debut their brand new third kit when they take on Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Reds opened up their campaign with a 5-1 win over Leeds in the Premier League, where they officially debuted their brand new home kit in front of 72,000 fans at Old Trafford.
After unveiling their three new kits for the season including a light blue and white away strip and a darker blue and yellow third strip, questions were raised by fans about which kit they would be wearing against the red and white stripes of Southampton in their first away game of the season.
The club have now revealed that it will be their darker third kit that will be worn for the first time against the Saints on Sunday afternoon, meaning fans will get to see it in the flesh.
Manchester United wore their home kit for all four pre-season friendlies and then against Leeds too, with the debut of the away kit postponed when the friendly between United and Preston North-End was cancelled due to positive COVID-19 tests among the first-team squad.
United’s new gear takes inspiration from the 1993/94 away shirt, a season in which the Reds ran out comfortable 3-1 winners at the Saints’ old home, The Dell, thanks to goals from Lee Sharpe, Eric Cantona and Denis Irwin.
New signings Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho could earn their first starts for the club in the game, with Varane training for the first time this week while Sancho came off the bench against Leeds to make his official debut.
