Manchester United warned over Kieran Trippier transfer trick that would benefit Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United have been told they’re making a huge mistake by letting Kieran Trippier join Newcastle – and Cristiano Ronaldo could suffer as a result.

Trippier looks set to complete a move to St James’ Park from Atletico Madrid, with the Magpies having agreed a £12m fee with the Spanish champions.

The England international has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and was reportedly close to making a move last summer with plans in place for a Premier League return, only for United to be knocked back by the fee asked for by Atletico.

Instead, Trippier is set to join struggling Newcastle instead with confirmation of the deal imminent, leaving some supporters and pundits to question United’s apparent decision not to follow up on their previous interest.

Among them is former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, who believes United are missing out on an upgrade current right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and feels Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani would have benefitted from Trippier’s signing.

"When I watch Manchester United, and I don't know if you agree, Ronaldo must be so frustrated from the right-hand side because I love Wan-Bissaka defensively, but he can't cross a ball," Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

"There was an incident where he actually tapped the ball with his left foot and fell over and crossed it out of play. He's just not good enough for Manchester United.

"The thing I don't understand is why have Manchester United let Trippier go to Newcastle? He would be perfect for Manchester United.

"Just get it done. For that sort of money, £12million, I'm sure Manchester United can pay the sort of wages that Newcastle can.

"Put him on that right-hand side, imagine the goals that Ronaldo and Cavani would get from that service.

"Wan-Bissaka is not a modern-day full-back; especially in a top team. So, for me, Manchester United have missed a trick with Trippier."
