Manchester United warned over Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane deals after failed big money moves

Former Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva has warned the club against making the same old mistakes in the transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to continue his rebuild at Old Trafford following the conclusion on the 2019-20 season with the club eager to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as part of those plans.

Standard Sport understands that United are also interested in signing Harry Kane this summer, though Tottenham have no intention of selling their star striker to the Red Devils - even for a reported £200million transfer fee.

United have bought well under Solskjaer but the years prior to his return to the club were marked by a number of high profile arrivals failing to make the grade.

Speaking to ESPN, Rafael urged his former side to target players who are utterly committed to the club, citing former teammate Javier Hernandez as an example before insisting the likes of Sancho and Kane must have the same qualities.

“They should go for the players who want to play for Manchester United. Not just because Manchester United are going to pay you. Look at Chicharito. How hard did he play for Manchester United? He wanted to play. How much did Manchester United pay for him? Not much. You have to be clever,” the right-back explained.

“You have to see that the player wants to play for Manchester United. You have to be clever.

“Harry Kane is a goalscorer. Jadon Sancho is very, very good, but first of all you have to see the character of the player and see if they really want to do well for United, not just coming for the money.”
