Manchester United want ex-Leeds United transfer target and it's left supporters dismayed

Manchester United are reportedly close to signing former Leeds United target Matheus Cunha for around €50 million, according to talkSPORT. The Red Devils are in a desperate frenzy to strengthen their squad before the window slams shut in just over two weeks’ time and Atletico Madrid forward Cunha is the latest of a long list to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Cunha was said to be a player Leeds were targeting under Marcelo Bielsa last summer as they looked so strengthen their attacking options. Back then, Cunha was still at Hertha Berlin, but Leeds failed to agree a deal and instead made the move to Atletico Madrid later in the window for around €22 million.

Cunha has struggled to have much of an impact in his first 12 months in Madrid, often playing as second fiddle to the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Joao Felix and Angel Correa. In his debut year at the club he scored six league goals, though only eight of his 29 appearances came from the start.
