Manchester United 'want Darren Fletcher to work with new technical director' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly considering former midfielder Darren Fletcher to work alongside a new technical director as the club continues to revamp their transfer recruitment strategy.

United are expected to appoint a technical director to work with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the board as they look to change the way new signings are identified and scouted.

Current assistant Mike Phelan is one of the names being linked with the new position, and now the Telegraph are reporting that the club are looking at Fletcher to work alongside him.

Fletcher is still playing at Stoke in the Championship this season, but is out of contract in the summer.

The report adds that Fletcher, who made 342 appearances between 2001 and 2015, is being considered because of his history and understanding of the club from the Sir Alex Ferguson days - something United value highly in any off-field appointments.

Meanwhile, United will have to pay £80m if they want to re-sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Mail.

Zaha is said to be keen on leaving Selhurst Park in search of Champions League football, so United's hopes of bringing the 26-year-old back to Old Trafford could rest on finishing in the top four.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan are said to be monitoring his future, as well as United who are regularly linked with the winger.

Finally, United will reportedly look to sign £15m-rated Chelsea youngster Reece James, after a hugely successful season on loan at Wigan.

Mail Online say the club have been tracking James all season, where he has helped Wigan secure safety from relegation.

James, 19, is brother of United Women forward Lauren, and is said to be on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs.
