Manchester United waiting for Premier League response on postponed Burnley match amid potential fixture chaos

Manchester United are waiting to hear back from the Premier League on why their postponed trip to Burnley has still not been allocated a date.

United 's fixture at Turf Moor was originally set for the opening weekend of the season of September 12 but, because of United's Europa League participation in mid-August, the match has been pushed back to 2021.

Burnley and United do not have any midweek matches the week beginning January 11 yet the Premier League has not scheduled their meeting for Tuesday 12 or Wednesday 13 of next month. United travel to Liverpool on January 17 and Burnley are at West Ham on January 16.

Failure to schedule Burnley-United next month could risk it being played as late as April due to United's participation in the Europa Leaugue.

United are five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have played a game more.

Manchester City's league match at Everton on Monday night was postponed four hours before kick-off because of a coronavirus outbreak at the club and City are scheduled to play United in the Carabao Cup semi-final next Wednesday.

If City are unable to fulfil the fixture next week it will be rearranged as clubs only forfeit League Cup ties up to and including the fourth round.

The Carabao Cup final has been rearranged for April 25 from its original date of February 28, which would give the Manchester clubs more time to meet in the competition.
