Man United recorded their first Premier League home win of the season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer secured three much-needed points against West Brom at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer was under huge pressure ahead of the international break after two defeats in a row, but United beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park to ease the strain on the manager.
There was no let-up for United though as they entered the weekend’s action 14th in the table, and they just about got the 1-0 win over West Brom - though it was a controversial result.
The Baggies thought they had a penalty early in the second half after referee David Coote pointed to the spot having adjudged Bruno Fernandes to have brought down Conor Gallagher in the box - but the official overturned his decision after watching a replay on the advice of VAR.
At the other end, Coote pointed to the spot after Juan Mata's cross hit Darnell Furlong's hand, leading to Fernandes stepping up for a penalty that Johnstone saved low to his left.
The Baggies' celebrations were cut short, though, as the goalkeeper had strayed well off his line, with the VAR ordering a retake that Fernandes lashed into the top left-hand corner for the win.
